I thought it was interesting that the film has come to represent all these things about America, yet two of the leads are played by Australians, Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger.

    In any case, Hollywood's unfounded hostility towards the English is not represented only in The Patriot, but also in films like The Titanic, Escape From Colditz, U-471 (or whatever the numbers were), where British people were either made villains or had their achievements removed from the record.
