A POEM for DICK SIMKANIN

When I was a Kid I was told to be quiet.
Mind your own business and don’t start a riot
The rules are for all and you better not argue
When they come for you, nobody will guard you

The land of the free and the home of the brave
They lie about taxes and keep you enslaved
They compel your behavior and say you are free
The simplest logic asks “how can this be?”

They don’t allow travel without their permission
Their ignorant police force enforce that decision
Though the Supremes decided it numerous times
Unalienable rights can’t be turned into crimes

The taxation of labor is misunderstood
They polluted the tax code, and they knew that they should
To confuse the most literate minds that we know
But IRS agents say they know that you owe

What kind of nation has this country become
A third rate democracy, second to none
Where government workers hold children at bay
Because of concern, Mom might hurt them someday

Where Social Security is used to enslave
Hundreds of millions from birth to the grave
Since disclosure of truth is never forthcoming
All the lies that they tell us is simply mind numbing

Permission is needed for all that you do
From hunting and fishing to skateboarding too
Try building a shed or hanging a sign
And then go to court and fight paying a fine

It is not just the feds now involved in this game
The States and the locals are in it the same
They’re all high on their horse just to tell you what’s right
Just don’t listen to them and you’re in for a fight

Freedom and Liberty are ours from conception
They are God given rights to my best perception
These rights were secured by our own constitution
If denied all our rights, we demand revolution

Executive orders are law of the land
How long will it take for the line in the sand?
How many Simkanins will we sacrifice?
Where’s the honor in that? I’ll ask you just twice

A man who asked questions or so I am told
Found no law that stated he had to withhold
So he stopped for he did what he thought would be right
Paid his workers their money and slept well through the night

But alas Big Ole Brother put an end to this man
The jury convicted in a trial that’s a sham
The questions Dick asked still weren’t answered at trial
They’re not answered today and won’t be for a while

Conventional wisdom is what we all think
Everybody pays taxes or you sit in the clink
When they said “the World’s flat” and you said, “No it’s not”
It was off with your head or a cell left to rot.

A hundred plus years Dick will face for his quest
For unanswered questions he asked IRS
He asked them at trial, but the Judge, he denied
To award Dick due process in the way he was tried

In appealing the case I hope Dick will prevail
It has already cost him too much time in a jail
I wish him the best, but he may face his ends
A political prisoner should be home and with friends

Now the Judge in this matter should be locked up instead
For he needs a taste of what’s just what's up ahead
Our government simply has gone so awry
It soon may be over for all, so Goodbye
