Defining the Totalitarian Dictator

Dear Patriots,
For your information the totalitarian dictator, as the root implies, seeks complete control over every aspect of life-political, economic, religious, educational, recreational and social. He wants to control all the organiztions to which people belong, such as women's, youth, and labor groups. This is accompanied by government control over the mass media and the educational system for the purpose of mass indoctrination.
The indoctrination is considered necessary because there is a comprehensive ideology(such as communism or fascism) that he uses to justify his control and which he wants everyone to accept. This legitimizes his absolute rule. The ideology is comprehensive in that it purports to answer all the great philosophical questions of the ages, and it claims to explain all past, present, and future history in terms of one all-encompassing idea. This might be a class struggle, a master race, or some other simplistic explanation of history.
Totalitarian dictators cannnot tolerate opposition or criticism. Hence, they invariably establish a one party system.(Think gerry mandering) A terroristic police state is usually an integral part of totalitarianism. Terror is the unpredictable use of force. All political systems use a certain amount of force to maintain order. However, when terror is used one never knows beforehand if a certain act will be construed by the leaders to be a crime. In the dispensing of revolutionary justice arbitrary decisions are often made.
In order to distract the people from the harsh life they lead or will lead under this rule, the leaders incessantly harp on real or imagined enemies. This is done to instill a permanent sense of crisis which is supposed to make sacrifices necessary. They seek scapegoats so the people will not blame the leader of the system for their misery. Stalin evoked the specter of Capitalistic encirclement. Hitler blamed all the problems on the Jews. Castro rails against Yankee Imperialists. Who are the Neocons railing against?
Totalitarian movements are usually led initially by charismatic leaders who are able to mobilize the masses. A charismatic leader is one who has a strong personal magnetism. He seems able to accomplish the impossible and is a true believer who is totally dedicated to the cause. They are driven by a simple purpose-the great cause which they espouse. Therein lies their strength.
Totalitarianism also tends to be imperialistic.Post-democratic and post-industrial societies in crisis are much more susceptible to fascism. Thus if this historical widely accepted generalization is accurate, the system from which we must fear an overthrow in the United States is not communism but fascism. One big weakness of the Nazi regime was that the economy was strictly geared for war. Without war it could not survive. The Nazis had to continue to use brute force indefinitely to maintain their power. Such a system is doomed to failure.
I cannot make this any simpler and it is painful for me to do so. This so called "never ending global war" on terror must come to an end and it is WE THE PEOPLE here in the USA that must end it no matter what the cost as the future of the world hangs in the balance. For God sake wake up America and smell the coffee!!!

In peace,

Daniel E. Moore, USAF veteran
