PHOENIX MAGAZINE TEMPLE MURDERS SERIES

by Russ Kimball and Laura Greenberg
PHOENIX MAGAZINE Dec. 1993

This startling account of the defects in the case against Jonathan Doody by the lead Temple Murders Task Force investigator, Russ Kimball presents an official baseline account of the Maricopa County Sheriffs investigation to which more damaging defects can be added.

PART ONE: Revelations From the Temple, Oct. 1993

In this article Russ Kimball admits that one detective just scrapped up the shells from the temple murders crime scene and put them into his coat pocket to take them down to headquarters and then to the lab. The chain of evidence was also broken for the alleged murder weapon which sat for 11 weeks behind the door of another MCSO detective. Perhaps the biggest question is why Kimball went home to take a shower after he received the murder alert. During this large lapse of time was Kimball called to some "high level meeting?"

PART TWO: False Confessions Nov. 1993

Can you imagine what went into the selection of the title "False confessions"? It is as if it is the fault of the 4 Tucson youths that they confessed to murder they did not commit.

PART THREE: Trials and Tribulations Dec. 1993

The time line presented in this article is especially helpful for discerning the significance of events happening around the date of the rifle confiscation and the arrest of Jonathan Doody and his friends.
