My words tried to deal with reality..
Many of us are well aware the impact man has / is having on this
planet... you'd have to be blind not to.
1. Plant and animal extinctions/population decline are perhaps
the most obvious.
2. Landscape modification & habitat changes are also very
obvious.
3. Natural/Mineral resource exhaustion is obviously rapidly
approaching
4. Environmental pollution is also pretty obvious and still
plagues much of the undeveloped world even though some headway
has been made in developed states.
5. Currently there are measurements of increases in global sea
temperature.. some suggest its related to a global warming,
caused by man, rather than by nature or just plain cyclical. My
opinion (along with many others) is there may be something in
this..but its by NO means CERTAIN.
Given that there is a link from sea temperatures to weather
formations like Katrina then ... the link from 5.) above to
Katrina being cuased by MAN is tenous given the already recorded
CYCLICAL nature of such weather formation.
WHAT I and many others complain about is the SCARE MONGERING...
just like with "paper" in the 80's.
SCAREMONGERING that links every natural EXTREME of our weather
system with MAN-MADE global warming.
I dont want to see jackbooted greens telling me that I've goto
do this, that, or other JUST like they did over PAPER in the
80's.
I really *** HATE *** people who KNOWINGLY LIE and DECEIVE the
mass of ignorant (and we are all ingnorant to some extent in
some subject areas) fellow citizens who RELY sound advice and
solid analysis from them who purport to KNOW what they are
expounding.
My experience of the 80's was that educated environmentalist WHO
KNEW (and were told for certain) that there was NO link between
PAPER and RAINFOREST trees (remember the footage of all the
Amazonian tree fellings?).
Wre so FULL of their OWN hunger fior POLITICAL power that they
KNOWINGLY DECEIVED (lied to) the public.
Cheryl, there are public standards for drinking water. If there
is a problem then you all need to get together, have some
samples professionally analysed, and then start a class action,
if the authorities dont take any action themselves.
Complacency it NEVER to be encouraged but satisfaction is to be
applauded and excellence is attainable everywhere.
Today the environmentalist lobby has NO clear DIRECTION much of
hwat it wants is contradictory made up of things it doesnt want.
I've seen environmentalist BIRD watchers (ornithologists) STOP
the building ALL over the world of SEA-TIDAL power stations &
dams. These would have slowed global consumption of fossils
fuels 20 years ago. BUT NO .. theyt dont want them. They make
too big an impact on certain animal (mainly bird) populationa.
Such short sightedness. Each piece of OLD habitat destroyed
brings an opportunity for new colonization in the new habitat.
Hitting us with badly thought out DONTs will not work...TRY
coming up with some solutions that your own lobby will agree to.
And please dont say .. we must shut down planet earth inc. - its
not an option at the moment.
Options that are available - TIDAL POWER - really - there is
millions of times more energy in the TIDAL power of the SEA than
EVERYTHING mankind uses today, even without an enrgy
conservation strategy.
Take America/Europe/S.E Asia for example..
There are many many CROSS estuarine/channel road
bridge/barrage/dams that could be built to power nearly ALL of
Europe and much of Canada. But your *birdmen* wont let them be
built! Simple TIDAL turbines generating energy with roads and
ports and aquaculture / aquasports in pay for much of the build
cost.
Take Nothern Europe for example - Britain to Irleand, Britain to
France, Holland, Belguim, Norway etc. Scandanavia could build
dozens of them. N. Ireland has Loch Foyle and Eire has Sligo bay
as well as many potential sea dams to small just offshore
islands. Its tidal current you are after. This passes 4 (2 in &
2 out) times a day in huge quantites. Scotland has Lochs, Norway
has Fiords, & England has the HUGE channel to its south and
east.
All the way down the French coastline to Spain ansd all the way
down the African Coastline.
What about Canada .. truely massive.
The trick is to initially build these dams for multiple USE and
you dont really need to DAM the tide off completely. It should
flow naturally - you just take a PERCENTAGE of its power. Have
you seen the signs that spin round outside of shops - thats
basically all you need - on a larger scale.
Look at all the bridges there are in the Florida area down
towards the Keys. Instead of building roads on STILTS build on
WIDE banks/causeways punctuated by bridges and power generator
facilities.
Thats just for starters.. there SO much more!
