..Just as the the 1980's environmentalists strode around our
places of work, shopping malls and media outlets...
..telling us to save paper so that we would save the
RAINFOREST... but the Rainforest is actually made up primarily
of a source of HARDWOOD tree (teak & mahogany) to make
furniture/boats etc and is not a source of SOFTWOOD tree (pine &
spruce) for paper manufacture... so saving paper NEVER saved a
single Rainforest tree... (OK its a geographical fact - there
are NO pine or spruce "rainforests" - definition of a rainforest
is that it "rains" there (nearly) every day and is on the
equatorial region).
...now anytime we get a heat wave or a hurricane or a heavy down
pour or even a spell of excessive cold weather...so
environmentalist comes out and tell us its all down to "GLOBAL
Warming"...
I very much doubt there is any PROOF, beyond speculation, that
there is any linkage with these weather conditions at all...
THAT does NOT mean that we should NOT be wary about the problems
of the "ENERGY CRISIS" the world may face in the not too distant
future.
Whether we like it or not we USE too much fossil fuels (stories
appearing that say its NOT from fossil sources are pure bunk).
Whilst we may have the ARMED FORCES to subjugate those
countries, who have fossil fuel reserves (eg Iraq Iran), for our
own gain. In the long term (20 years) we will p0ay the price for
our aggression. And we still will not have solved the "ENERGY
CRISIS"...
A more FRUITFUL strategy would be to TURN to renewable energy &
energy conservation.. hell there are loads of deserts out there
with only sun coming down on them. Join forces with other
countries to make these deserts into some sort of CO2 absorbing,
energy production facility based on some sort of VEGETATION.
If you can mount AIRSTRIKES & INVASION on IRAQ then you can put
life into the Sahara desert.
CO2 absorbed will reduce global warming and the vegetable matter
can replace oil/gas/coal. You newver know we may even be able to
fill the old mines & well back up with stuff to put the CO2 back
into the ground.
