DAYS BEFORE "SOUTHERN DECADENCE" 8/31/05

PHILADELPHIA - Just days before "Southern Decadence", an annual homosexual celebration attracting tens of thousands of people to the French Quarters section of New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina destroys the city.

"Southern Decadence" has a history of filling the French Quarters section of the city with drunken homosexuals engaging in sex acts in the public streets and bars. Last year, a local pastor sent video footage of sex acts being performed in front of police to the mayor, city council, and the media. City officials simply ignored the footage and continued to welcome and praise the weeklong celebration as being an "exciting event". However, Hurricane Katrina has put an end to the annual celebration of sin.

On the official "Southern Decadence" website ( www.SouthernDecadence.com ), it states that the annual event brought in "125,000 revelers" to New Orleans last year, increasing by thousands each year, and up from "over 50,000 revelers" in 1997. This year’s 34th annual "Southern Decadence" was set for Wednesday, August 31, 2005 through Monday, September 5, 2005, but due to massive flooding and the damage left by the hurricane, Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco has ordered everyone to evacuate the city.

The past three mayors of New Orleans, including Sidney Barthelomew, Marc H. Morial, and C. Ray Nagin, issued official proclamations welcoming visitors to "Southern Decadence". Additionally, New Orleans City Council made other proclamations recognizing the annual homosexual celebration.

"Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city," stated Repent America director Michael Marcavage. "From 'Girls Gone Wild' to 'Southern Decadence,' New Orleans was a city that had its doors wide open to the public celebration of sin. From the devastation may a city full of righteousness emerge," he continued.

New Orleans is also known for its Mardi Gras parties where thousands of drunken men revel in the streets to exchange plastic jewelry for drunken women to expose their breasts. This annual event sparked the creation of the "Girls Gone Wild" video series.

"We must help and pray for those ravaged by this disaster, but let us not forget that the citizens of New Orleans tolerated and welcomed the wickedness in their city for so long," Marcavage said. "May this act of God cause us all to think about what we tolerate in our city limits, and bring us trembling before the throne of Almighty God," Marcavage concluded.

individual answers to God in the future, but not a nation. George Mason,

A Bible example is of Elijah in I Kings. After Elijah won his confrontation
with the prophets of Baal, he complained to God, "There's no one else in the
nation who believes in You." And God responded, "There are 7,000 men left in
this nation - men of integrity, righteous men, men who do love Me....."
Ahab and Jezebel were the nation's wicked leaders. Because of their
wickedness, the entire nation, including 7,000 righteous men, went without
rain for 3.5 years.

Hey Dad,

How you holding up under the $3.19 a gallon gas prices? I calculated that a fill-up for our family van would cost $111.65 - Yeow!!! I haven’t even allowed myself to think about the cost of filling up our 75-gallon, fuel-loving RV!!!

Of course, compared to the upheaval and destruction that some of our families are facing down south, I need to shut up and be thankful. Truth is, the aftermath of Katrina has been felt all the way up here in Northern Indiana.

The pictures and stories of people wading through the murky brown waters have affected me. Those folks know firsthand what’s important and what isn’t now. Their homes have been destroyed, and all their worldly possessions have been washed away or ruined, but when interviewed about the situation, they inevitably say, “I’m just thankful that my family is all right...that’s all that matters right now.”

On the flip side, those who have lost a family member care about nothing else. You’ll never hear them say into the camera, “I lost my cordless drill and golf clubs...and look at my car! What am I going to do?”

A few minutes ago, I was standing in my garage looking at the mounds of bikes, tools, toys, and junk that I’ve collected and thought, “None of this matters.”

The books that I’ve written, the treasures that I’ve collected, even the photos and scrapbooks that hold irreplaceable memories...don’t matter.

The landscape, the house that we’ve labored over for 8 years, and the Familyman Mobile that we’ve come to love...don’t matter.

My dreams for the future, my plans and aspirations to change the world...don’t matter.

What matters is a little boy named Ike who spiked his hair up yesterday and paraded around the house thinking it was pretty funny, little Maggie Rose who adorably wrinkles her nose and shrugs her shoulders, Katherine who puts little sparkles on her cheeks, Ben and Sam who are becoming more like men every day, Abe who has a “fever” and is milking it for all it’s worth, and my beloved bride who is in need of a little ‘together time’.

The reminder is part of the aftermath of Katrina. So, Dad, pray for the families down south, do what you can to help…and cherish the family you have tonight.
