What a coincidence - M. Thatcher did the same to Argentina

In negotiations over the disputed ownership of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) with Argentina. The then foreign secretary, who later resigned, indicated to the Argentinian negotiators that Britain did NOT the WILL to persue the ownership issue.

It was made clear that although Britain's "official" position was "its ours" that frankly the "cost of maintainance" outwayed the "assest value" and that if the dispute went any further than being "just diplomatic" (ie military conflict) that Britain was hardly likely to put up a fight! Seeing as how Britian had a long history of appeasement since the end of WWII and certainly since Suez & Cyprus. Britains only interest in this region being to further its claim on the Antartic & the exploitation of marine resources around the Falklands. Ha Ha... the TRAP was set.

So, a short while later, Argentina, having been given the GREEN light by the British Foreign Secretary, invades the Malvinas.

But M. Thatcher then with ARTIFICIAL self-righteousness and indignation turns this loss of a perpetual money drain into an election campaign WINNER. The British Foreign Secretary resigns and the "FALKLANDS WAR" is started up to RALLY people to the flag. The TRAP was sprung.

And the Argentinian ruling Junta were up the proverbial creek without a paddle.

Note the USA did NOT help Britain in this endeavour.

This was because the CIA had eyes on the Malvinas to further American claims to the resources of the southern hemisphere and they (the CIA) were actually behind the Argentinian impetus to regain the Malvinas.

Whether the CIA helped Argentina in the war or not is uncertain. What is known is that Argentina did have a very good military intelligence source which gave them the exact positions of British forces.

At the time it was rumoured the source was France because France was Argentina's arms supplier and these weapons (Mirage & Exocet) had been successful against Britain's ships. But the source may well have been the CIA. This was the crucial battle for military supremacy and Britain were nearly beaten.

Many Brits lost their lives in that war.

How many knew why ?
