Mexican (Green Carder) recruits ALREADY are in Iraq!
In Wednesday's Citizen Letters-To-Editor, one writer suggested we "LET MEXICAN IMMIGRANTS IN MILITARY" - recruit them into our army and marines to fight for us in Iraq.

What surprised me was that the Citizen didn't add a footnote advising the writer our government has ALREADY been recruiting non-citizens, over 60,000 (predominately young Mexicans) since Sept. 11, 2001.

Recently deceased Col. David Hackworth, in a King Features column over a year back, angrily blasted this recruitment of (clearly mercenary) non-citizens! Hackworth wrote, in some units, so little English was being used between the troops, their officers did not know what they were saying.

My questions again: Are some - or many - of the reported incidents of "trigger-happy" frightened young "American" soldiers shooting Iraqi civilians, being done by non-Americans, young people who were not brought up schooled with our American society's standard of respect for human life? Who probably also mostly come from economically depressed areas south of the border, areas where violence and even murder are more common experiences than in most of our country? Also how many Green Carders may have been recruited AFTER being members of violent LA gangs?

Mexico City -- Fernando Suarez del Solar feels a sense of urgency about the war in Iraq -- and not just because he lost his only son there two years ago. It is his duty, he says, to warn young Latinos about the perils of joining the U.S. military and becoming, like his son, a "green card Marine," lured by promises of a college education, post-service career and fast-track citizenship.

Three years ago, President Bush offered accelerated citizenship to any green card holder who has served in the military since Sept. 11, 2001.

Instead, the bereaved father tells would-be recruits, they could wind up like Marine Lance Cpl. Jesus Suarez, killed at age 20 after he stepped on an unexploded cluster bomb in March 2003, during the first week of the war.

"Immigrants are generally the first on the front lines," Suarez said. "They should know where they'll end up."

While there is no way to confirm the truth of that assertion, Latinos comprise more than a third of the 41,000 foreign citizens in the U.S. fighting force, according to the Defense Department, with the largest number -- 8,539 -- from California. Immigrant troops are most visible in the Army and Marines, the services with the highest casualty rates in Iraq, but barely present in the Navy and Air Force, Pentagon records show.

Although the military deducts education costs from their monthly paychecks, Suarez told them U.S. recruiters fail to explain that.

Most recruits sign up for four years of active duty and four years in the reserves, said David Griesmer, a spokesman for Marine Corps Recruiting Command based in Quantico.

But Suarez said a Marine recruiter in San Diego lied to Jesus by saying he could become a DEA agent after serving for just a year.

There are still about 30,000 active duty and 11,000 Guard and Reserve personnel in the military who are not U.S. citizens, according to Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel David Chu. He testified Tuesday before the Senate Armed Services Committee on personnel issues facing the military.

The above report was barely remarked on by media pundits, maybe because it is a political embarrassment. For the American military has been employing the services of over 60,000 non-US citizens in its "War-on-Terror"since September 11, 2001, using the prospect of citizenship as an inducement to aid recruitment.

Based on Israeli press statistics, Israel currently has no fewer than 1,000 officers and soldiers scattered around the American units working in Iraq. In addition, 37 rabbis are operating within the American troops, which leads to believe that the real number is greater; since Ha'aretz admitted that others are concealing their Jewish identities, which makes them self-driven Israeli citizens. Currently, there is a recruitment campaign coinciding with the escalation of the operations in Iraq, which seeks to send further assistance there. Amongst these campaigns is the incitement of Rabbi Irving Elson in his latest speech given in New York to allocate further "Fighting Rabbis" and encourage them to enlist in the American forces, in addition to another rabbi's advisory stating that those killed in Fallujah are "martyrs."

British defence chiefs have warned United States military commanders in Iraq to change their rules for opening fire or face becoming bogged down in a terrorist war for a decade or more.

The warning is said to have taken the form of advice from senior officers who accompanied Gen Sir Mike Jackson, the chief of the General Staff, on a recent trip to southern Iraq and Baghdad to visit British troops.

The officer said: "US troops have the attitude of shoot first and ask questions later. They simply won't take any risk.
"I explained that their tactics were alienating the civil population and could lengthen the insurgency by a decade. Unfortunately, when we ex-plained our rules of engagement which are based around the principle of minimum force, the US troops just laughed."

An American patrol roared past us with the soldiers gesturing furiously with their guns for traffic to keep back on an overpass in central Baghdad. A black car with three young men in it did not stop in time and a soldier fired several shots from his machine gun into its engine.

The rector of Al-Nahrain University in south Baghdad was travelling to a degree ceremony on the other side of the city when white men in a four-wheel drive suddenly opened fire, hitting him in the stomach. Presumably they thought he was on a suicide mission.

The immunity of US troops means that there is nothing to inhibit them opening fire in what for them is a terrifying situation... With nobody else to shoot at it is the civilians who pay the price.

Bill Moyers' "The Secret Government" video segment

It aired on PBS in 1987 and is as good as anything on the tape (must see). Moyers is a very respected TV journalist who also worked for Lyndon B. Johnson and has a very professional approach. He interviews many different people involved with the CIA and other government agencies. His documentary gives quite an overview of what has actually happened in the last 50 years regarding the CIA and the cold war (including Iran, Guatamala, Cuba, Viet Nam and Chile). He features such people as Ralph McGeehee and Phil Retinger (both former CIA agents), Rear Admiral Gene La Rocque (Ret. U.S.N.), Theodore Bissell (active in the CIA at the time), Sen. Frank Church and many others. Moyers is so very credible. The full video "The Secret Government" is 90 minutes - this segment is edited by Frank Dorrel to 20 minutes.
