The FBI said Wednesday it will not reopen its investigation of the Oklahoma
City bombing based on alleged statements from convicted accomplice Terry
Nichols that a third man was involved in the 1995 attack

Nichols, who conspired with
Timothy McVeigh in bombing the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, accused
Arkansas gun collector Roger Moore of providing some explosives for the
assault, according to a letter Nichols allegedly sent to a woman whose two
grandchildren were killed in the blast.
Moore said Nichols' allegations were "completely false."
"What would you do if you were in solitary confinement for the rest of your
life?" Moore said, referring to Nichols. "He's making stuff up. What he
claims I did is completely false. I never had any explosives."
Until the Sept. 11 attacks, the Oklahoma bombing, which killed 168 people,
was the largest terrorist attack on U.S. soil.
FBI spokesman Jeff Lanza said the bureau was "standing by" its original
investigation.
"There is absolutely no credible evidence tying anyone other than Timothy
McVeigh and Terry Nichols to the (bomb) plot. We have no new information
that changes that view," Lanza said, referring to the letter and the recent
discovery of explosives buried under Nichols' former Kansas home.
Contents of the April 18 letter, addressed to Kathy Sanders, were first
disclosed by the Los Angeles Times. On Wednesday, Sanders' literary agent,
Jim Baird, provided the letter to USA TODAY. Sanders has been corresponding
with Nichols as part of her personal investigation of the attack.
In his letter, dated on the eve of the bombing's 10th anniversary, Nichols
said Moore "provided McVeigh with the binary explosives ... used in the OKC
bombing."
Nichols also said that Moore was the source of the explosives found under
Nichols' former home in Herington, Kan., in March.
The FBI was tipped to the hidden explosives through another inmate housed at
a Colorado federal prison where Nichols is serving two life sentences
without the possibility of parole.
The material recovered from the Kansas property is being analyzed at the FBI
laboratory in Quantico, Va. But Lanza said the explosives were similar to
the material taken in a Kansas quarry robbery in 1994. McVeigh and Nichols
were later linked to the robbery, which prosecutors said produced the
explosives used in the bombing.
The FBI said that Nichols and McVeigh were involved in a robbery at Moore's
Arkansas home where about $60,000 in weapons, gold coins and other items
were taken. McVeigh, who was executed in 2001 after his conviction, and
Nichols sold many of the items to finance the bombing, the government
alleged.
According to the government's case, Moore and McVeigh were acquaintances and
McVeigh spent time at Moore's home.
"I felt the record should be set straight," Nichols wrote in the letter to
Sanders. "The Fed. Govt. knows of Roger Moore's corrupt activities and they
are protecting him and covering up his involvement with McVeigh and the OKC
bombing."
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (news, bio, voting record), R-Calif., who is reviewing
the case, said he has asked for a meeting with Nichols in prison to discuss
his claims. He also said he is considering calling for a congressional
hearing.
"I have a sense everything wasn't done and questions weren't answered 10
years ago," Rohrabacher said. "I need to go and see Terry Nichols."
