Schwarzenegger"s Support to Immigrant Hunters in US Rejected
Washington, Apr 30 (Prensa Latina) The support of Californian Governor Arnold
Schwarzenegger to paramilitary groups dedicated to hunt immigrants in the
common border between US and Mexico was considered Saturday "an intolerable
atrocity."
Mexico denied what it considered unfortunate statements made by Schwarzenegger
Saturday on the illegal project called Minuteman to hunt immigrants, which
affect historical economic, social and cultural links between Mexico and the
state of California, a Mexican Foreign Affairs Ministry official note said
here Saturday.
An editorial titled "Irresponsible Attitude by Schwarzenegger" by La Opinion,
regarded that it was inadmissible a governor cheers participation of
paramilitary in police works.
According to La Opinion, the decision of Schwarzenegger to talk about the
Minuteman Project in a radio transmission promoting hostility against illegal
immigrants brings drop of his popularity.
La Opinion said Schwarzenegger feeds the fire for discord, instead calming
tensions in a state like California, with a great ethnic and migratory
diversity.
"Our country has the right to know who enters the country, and limiting his
entry, but geographical, historical, and socio-economic realities are not for
demagogical and simple solutions for the common border problems," said La
Opinion.
The US Democrat Party demanded Schwarzenegger he should apologize for his
support to the Minuteman activities, and accused him of trying to hide the
topic of the state budget and other problems with the topic of illegal
migration.
Under the Minuteman Project, hundreds of armed paramilitary patrol the border
between the territories of Arizona and Mexico to hunt illegal immigrants.
Tension increased in the middle of April after a paramilitary patrol arrested
a Mexican immigrant.
When he presented the demand before the Prosecutor Office, the Mexican citizen
accused the paramilitary group of having forced him to wear an underwear shirt
with a proselytism text on it.
"Brian Barton caught me as I was crossing the border, and all I could get, was
this poor shirt," said the sign in the underwear shirt, promoting the image of
the paramilitary group member, who has got political ambitions in Arizona.
