Social Security NOW?

President Bush wants to make social security reform the hallmark of his second presidency. The fact that the system is in trouble and in need of reform isn't in dispute. What does need to be called into question is whether social security reform has become a diversion from the more pressing issues of the day.

Social security doesn't impact the survival of the nation; illegal immigration, the rapid devaluation of the dollar and the co-mingling of America's sovereignty in global trade agreements do. Social security isn't risking the lives of our military or threatening our transportation system and the heating of our homes. Social security won't shield us from a nuclear or EMP attack.

President Bush needs to take a look at his priorities. He needs to break free of the special interests who seem to hold him hostage. He needs to stand up and get some backbone. President Bush could become one of the greatest presidents in history if he would put America first and quit hand-holding with Arabs and kissing up to Vincente Foxe. He needs to get us out of FTAA, CAFTA and WTO, and get the U.N. out of America NOW. He needs to get off his globalism agenda and onto Americanism NOW.

He needs to get our military home to American soil to shore up our borders and protect our infrastructure NOW. He needs to encourage the development of alternative fuels such as bio-diesel and renewable power such as wind and solar power NOW. THEN, after he tackles the deficit and the dwindling value of the dollar, he can think about Social Security. All the retirement benefits in the world won't mean a thing if everything else we hold dear is gone.

"If you love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."
Samuel Adams
