There is a lady who everyone seems to debating over at the moment in America, to her right to live but it appears we all need to think of her and not ourselves or beliefs.
Just over three years ago at the age of 25, I was diagnosed with a life threatening Brain Stem Cancer which was later known to be a rare Tumor. Despite the high risks involved, I decided for the love of my son, family and friends, to fight for my life and have it removed.
After surgery, I was extremely unwell. I have been left a quadriplegic but this is not the fight of my life, my acceptance within society is.
I had breathing apparatus and a feeding tube. In brief, it was expected I would not breathe nor speak let alone live, but I fought for my rights and had them removed. It turned out that I did not need them. I have a fantastic voice, no need for help to breath and most definitely feed myself. Since my operation, I can speak, have great use of my right arm, weight bare for exercise and transfers, pursue hydrotherapy and daily social outings. I raise my little boy just as a more abled mother and most likely better.
I live in my home with my family and not an institution, as expected. But yes, I have had fantastic family support.
Very few people gave me positive feed back, but it is in my nature to try prove them wrong. I have and will continue to do so.
Everybody’s circumstances are different but if you had seen me back several years ago, you would be amazed.
I’m not sure if my story may help fight the rights of a very special woman who has an inability at the moment to express her thoughts, and or, she may had been convinced of no hope, as I was, but it is needed to be known faith is greater than medical knowledge.
