Phase 2 of Republican Schiavo Plan: Attack the judiciary, weaken it, consolidate power
by August Keso, March 22nd, 2005
According to Republican propagandist Rusty "Rush" Hudson Limbaugh the Third, the 70% of American people, which did not appreciate Congress getting involved in the Schiavo situation, and believed the reason for Republican involvement to be politically motivated well, they just don't know what they are talking about. That isn't all ladies and gentlemen, Rusty also played out the other half of the Republican political game, as it pertains to Terri Schiavo.

It is worthwhile to recall, ABC exposed a Republican "talking points" memo concerning Terri Schiavo. Among the talking points were how "great" Terri's undignified existence was, for Republicans because it was a "tough" issue for Democrats. Also, Republicans believed Terri's chronic and vegetative condition and their intervention would lead to an "excited" pro-life base.

Such a cold, unfeeling, calculated political assessment when discussing the life or death of an American citizen is, in and of itself, venal to say the least. To be sure, it leads one to ask just how black are the souls and dark the hearts of Republicans, that they could even consider such ideas when contemplating the very sad reality of another human being? Unfortunately, as revealed today by Rusty "Please Pass the Pills" Limbaugh, that vile aspect of the life and death issue concerning Terri Schiavo, was only the tip of the iceberg.

In order to fully comprehend the Republican political machine, it is critical to understand one thing: There is a very real and persistent coordination between the Republican Party, and the myriad of propagandists that work with and, as everyone now knows, for them. Should anyone doubt this contention, there is a very simple self-test that can be employed. Take the time out of any given day, and listen to two or three of the Republican radio propagandists. Then watch FOX News' evening programs. A very clear pattern will emerge. The radio propagandists and FOX will touch on the same topics and issues.

During an election cycle, the pattern becomes even more telling. The propagandists, FOX and the Republican Party will all be on message. If one were to observe this over a period of time it becomes quite clear, there is persistent and certain coordination between Republicans and their propagandists. No need to trust an outside observer, anyone can learn the facts for themselves by taking the simple self-test.

Understanding the vital link between the Republican Party and their propagandists, Rusty "Pill Poppin'" Limbaugh the Third laid out, for anybody listening, the second aspect of the Republican's political agenda as it relates to Terri Schiavo. It is their hope, since a Clinton appointed judge ruled against Schiavo's parents and refused to reinsert the feeding tube, to leverage Terri in an effort to force Bush's radical judges upon the Senate and the nation.

For years, Republicans have been assailing the American judicial system. Beyond Terri Schiavo and their hope to use her plight as the catalyst for imposing their kind of judges on the country, is an even more sinister plan. Since much, like the Schiavo Congressional intervention and stripping the minority party of their rights, of what Republicans hope to do is unconstitutional, they continuously attack the judicial system in an attempt to weaken its viability and credibility.

One might feel compelled to say, "Absurd" or "Why would they want to do that?" Others might think, "Good, there are too many liberal judges now. Get rid of them and let's install conservative judges, which will rule more in line with the way I think."

Weakening the judicial system is not an absurd hypothesis. If Republicans believe that the current interpretation of laws and the Constitution, will not allow them to move forward with their agenda of consolidating Executive and Federal power, the judiciary must be drastically altered or marginalized. It is vital to their perspective, that they convince as many people possible that, the judicial system is not interpreting either the Constitution or laws, but instead imposing some abstract notion of liberalism on their rulings.

It is in their best interest, if the goal is to consolidate the power of the Executive and Federal government, to weaken the judicial branch. To make it, and it's supposed liberal rulings irrelevant in the eyes of the majority. After the Schiavo intervention, the Patriot Act, a 75% increase in the number of documents labeled "secret" in the past year alone, their attempts to unilaterally destroy the minority parties right to filibuster nominations and two questionable elections in a row; the Republican desire to enlarge Executive and Federal power cannot be denied. Matter of fact, their callous and brazen use of Terri Schiavo clearly proves that the Republican Party's need and desire for power has no limits.

Their plan to use Terri, as a means to complete their assault on the judiciary should be, for any reasonable thinking individual, the final nail in the coffin as it relates to the power-mad objectives of the Republican Party. This is a Party guided by the same religious sense of superiority and ideological zealotry, as that found in many of the most dangerous Islamic Jihad movements.

There is a powerful core within the Republican Party, which adheres to, or is at least willing to manipulate, radical Christian ideology in order to achieve their goals. In the eyes of radical Christians, man's laws and the Constitution ought to be second to "God's Law" and the bible. Having judges and a judicial system that can and have made it difficult, for them to impose this belief on the nation is to them, unacceptable. The Republican Party is, and will continue to use Terri Schiavo's desperate and sad condition to further their own power and ideological agenda, by assaulting and weakening the nation's judiciary.

The heinous Republican memo relating to Terri Schiavo, and it's outlined political objectives were but the first phase of the Republican Party's true agenda. In the second, they will employ Terri, as a means to weaken the judiciary. Just listen to the propagandists, like Limbaugh. They will tell you everything you need to know.

Thank you.

You have articulated in one article much of what I have felt has befallen the Republican Party (and our Democracy) in the past decade.

I noticed about 7 to 8 years ago that right-wing pundits on cable news talk shows (even on CNN) kept repeating what sounded like scripted answers. In fact, they'd give their predetermined "spin" even though the subject being debated that night often was about something entirely different. "How odd," I thought at the time.

Cable news started sounding like a right-wing echo chamber. So I stopped listening to right-wing news outlets and right-wing commentators. Hey, if you've heard one, you've heard them all...literally. That is why I find Media Matters for America so important. Anyone who can stomach listening to and reporting on the incessantly repetitive right-wing drivel is tops in my book.

So, whenever I hear someone tuned into Rush Limbaugh, I speak up and state that if they continue listening to him, it will rot their brains (which tends to get a laugh). However, I mean it seriously, very seriously. And after this Schiavo fiasco, I believe it will also rot their souls.

I am upset over the entire fiasco that the Gop has made of the Schiavo case. I am also frightened. I see the future and it looks bleak. Our rights are being stripped from us by a handful of religious wackos. We are the majority, and it is time for us to act. So much has occured over the past four years that we never dreamed would, or could. I suggest everyone who feels uneasy over the direction our nation is heading to read The Handmaid's Tale.
