Apparently she has info on Fallujah, perhaps proof of NBC weapons.

Nicola Caligari (the high-level Italian mil. intel. official who was murdered by the US) had been in charge of the negotiations, had also handled negotiations for previous Italian hostages who had been released. Ransom for Giuliana had actually paid not in Iraq but to a base-man in "a nearby country" said to be either Kuwait or UAE, as soon as payment confirmed to kidnappers (by cellphone?) she was released somewhere on the outskirts of Baghdad.
So seems the band that kidnapped her was NOT a mainline/major insurgent group, but either a) a kidnapping gang - poverty and unemployment massive in Iraq these days! - that wanted to make some money and at the same time "give the insurgency a hand" by having Giuliana call for It. withdrawal and publicize Fallujah massacres of Iraqis on international TV, use ransom to help finance guerrilla actions?
or b) a kidnap gang "someone" had paid/tipped off to kidnap her to get her out of the way?? but were Iraqi patriots so played it at least partly their own way??
Anyway Giuliana says she was NOT mistreated by them, and that just before she was released, HER KIDNAPPERS WARNED HER TO BE CAREFUL BECAUSE THE AMERICANS WANTED HER KILLED BEFORE SHE COULD LEAVE IRAQ!!
Note that the interviews she'd been doing were with FALLUJANS who'd SURVIVED the US's destruction of their city... and lots of rumors around of US use of "prohibited weapons" there including chemical gas (WMDs), even murmurs of US having tried out mini-nukes??.. so if she had proof of this, or even if "someone" thought she might, would be good reason for US to want to get her out of the way even at cost of "diplomatic incident" with Italy -which they clearly underestimated - also because guess whoever killed her/wanted her killed had NO idea that she was travelling with such a "high-up" Italian intel official, national-hero level... nor what the political climate is like here over hostages!!
