[firebase-news] Open letter to Ron Paul (Presidential Candidate)
To Whom it May Concern:
My name is Johnny Waltz and I am a disabled veteran who served in both Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan 2002) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (Iraq 2004). Since becoming disabled I have become a veteran advocate and write articles for the Firebase Network and Operation Firing for Effect. Our mission statement is:
Draw public awareness and media attention to serious problems facing our former military personnel and their families.
Send a message to our Congress and Senate demanding Veterans Affairs issues take precedence over special interest issues.
Convey the message to our deployed troops that we support them and they can count on us to fight for the protection of their earned benefits and services.
Improve the State of Veterans Affairs in this country in an effort to increase enlistment and improve retention in the U.S. military.
Provide our former military personnel and their families a voice in matters that affect them.
The elections of 2008 are coming and I have heard recently that your pondering running for president. I myself am neither Republican nor Democrat and consider myself an Independent and vote based on a candidates stance on issues such as veterans mandatory health care initiative, enforcing U.S. Code Title 38 5301(a), U.S. Code Title 42 and U.S. Code 10, Section 1408 so that judges will stop robbing our veterans disability payment and other issues. I know that you have stood out as a maverick in your party and have been firmly against President Bush's war in Iraq which I can agree with you on some points.
My concern lies in the fact that your voting record when it comes to military and veterans is dismal at best . To add on top of that you have been backed by special interest groups such as NORML who are wanting to legalize marijuana . Where does that stand in the morals of our country? I am not attacking nor discrediting your record as a congressman but if you plan on running for President these issues will come out. We need a President who values morals, upholds the constitution as our forefathers laid it out and will give our Free Republic back to the American citizens.
A politician is one who serves a party and not the people which is defined by the Webster Dictionary as: a person engaged in party politics as a profession and a person primarily interested in political office for selfish or other narrow usually short-sighted reasons http://www.webster.com/dictionary/politician
On the other hand a statesman is one who serves the people which also is defined by the Webster Dictionary as: one versed in the principles or art of government; especially one actively engaged in conducting the business of a government or in shaping its policies and also one who exercises political leadership wisely and without narrow partisanship.
So, my question is which one are you? Will you stand for the people and take back our Free Republic and bring it back to what our forefathers envisioned it to be? Will you fulfill the promises made to our veterans? Remember it is our veterans who secured our Free Republic and provided the freedoms that all of our American citizens enjoy.
Taking a quote from a fellow veteran Robert Thompson, "Remember how history recorded how Nero fiddled while Rome burned? America has now reached a point to where we are witnessing the destruction of a Free Republic, The United States of America is now being treated by our Officials as a Democracy type Government, and if not corrected, will destruct as surely as all other Democracies were destroyed."
For too long both the Republicans and Democrats have been serving a master and not their people. This master is the special interests groups, corporations and the corrupt rich individuals who have no care for the American citizens but only care for accumulating more wealth.
In closing, I am asking you personally where do you stand?
