Matt EngelmanOur Lethal Enemy,Sat Oct 2, 2004 03:1264.140.158.77Our Lethal Enemy, by Matt Engelman http://www.mattengelman.com/lethalenemy.html In the mainstream press, Osama bin-Laden has been presented as our lethal enemy. Saddam Hussein, also, has been presented as our lethal enemy. The accusers have been the governments of the USA, UK, Israel, and of several other countries. Now, let's consider our personal histories and relationships with (1) Osama bin-Laden, (2) Saddam Hussein, and (3) our governments. Speaking for myself, I have never had a negative experience with Mr bin-Laden nor with Mr Hussein. Nor have I been attacked by any Saudi's, nor by any Afghani's, nor by any citizens of Iraq. I have never been forced to surrender money or property to Messrs bin-Laden, Hussein, nor to any of the governments with which they are associated, nor to any of the citizens of any of those countries. I have never been compelled by Messrs bin-Laden or Hussein, nor by any of their associates, to say or do anything, nor to refrain from saying or doing anything. Now, what about the governments of the countries in which I have lived? They have frequently - or rather, relentlessly - compelled me to behave in a specific manner, even when I disagreed with their prescriptions about how I should live my private life. They have compelled me to surrender approximately 50% of my earnings, through a combination of income taxes, corporation taxes, property taxes, and value-added-taxes (sales taxes). What have I received in return for 50% of my earnings? Have I received a free and fair society? Have I received security and safety? Do I perceive things getting better as a result of enlightened government leadership? Heck, I never even used the public services; I looked after myself, but I still had to pay - and pay dearly.Under the leadership of contemporary governments, we are hopping from one war to the next, at huge expense (my expense), and without any plausible justification whatsoever. In the United States, a compulsory military draft is imminent. (More slavery for another war of conquest, for no humane purpose whatsoever.) We are all watching these events as they unfold, and we all must decide for ourselves what the events really mean. It is no good accepting the mainstream press' uniform pronouncements about how we should interpret our surrounding reality. The very fact that such uniformity¹ exists should already ring alarm bells in our collective consciousness (and conscience). It is a hard pill to swallow, but we do - indeed - have a lethal enemy. Our lethal enemy is the state-apparatus which is leading us into total war and devastation. In the process, they are ripping us off to the maximum, and they plan to loot everything we have before dispensing with us altogether. By controlling the mainstream press, they can sustain the rosy, optimistic platitudes - babbled by paid disinformers on the TV news - which falsely convince the public that everything's gonna be all right. Everything is not gonna be all right, unless we, the people, wake up and take responsibility for our lives. At the core of our present dilemma, has been our surrender of our sovereignty as human-beings to a nameless, faceless, state-apparatus. We trust every baboon who comes into office [with apologies to the simian baboons for this insult], no matter how much worse they are than the last bunch of rascals. We want our leaders to be good people. I understand this. But we shouldn't keep believing it when all the objective evidence argues otherwise. Look for yourself. Use the Internet - an amazing research tool - and rise above the limitations of the corporatized, controlled mainstream media. A lot of people are coming to similar conclusions, independently and through different paths, but reaching similar conclusions. Use your mind; follow your heart. Decide for yourself. But please, open your eyes.¹ Please take the quiz, if you haven't checked it out yet. http://www.mattengelman.com/quizmain.html ============================S.2845Title: A bill to reform the intelligence community and the intelligence and intelligence-related activities of the United States Government, and for other purposes.Sponsor: Sen Collins, Susan M.
