I don't think there is any chance that Ron Paul will win the nomination
or the presidency. What we are seeing here is an expression of massive
disgust with the neocons who engineered the Iraq War and who have done
enormous damage to the Republican Party (and to the United States and
Americans as a whole). This is a protest vote. Republicans are sending
a message to those candidates who are still promoting the neocon line:
take a hike. That includes McCain, Giuliani, Thompson and Romney, none
of whom have learned a single useful lesson from the train wreck in
Iraq.

nominees, but who is actually being prepared for ultimate victory with
the nomination. Bolstered by winning the nomination, his win of the
presidency is almost assured; the republicans recapture the White House,
nothing substantive is done about the war, since Paul, even if he was a
legitimate candidate whose promises could be trusted, could never have
realistically done much about it; the republicans have a renewed and
ongoing effort to remove the last vestiges of "choice" for women, more
of the government is dismantled for "the good of the people," and Paul
almost certainly brings in a slender republican majority in the Senate.
They will have accomplished all of this, with an approving Left, already
softened by Nader/Kucinich-think. The Left is duped once more. We're
brought one step forward by a segment of the Left, as brainless as it is
obstinate, and 10 steps back by the victorious neocons.
